Review: Education.Com – A Fun Website For Parents & Kids!

Good morning!

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve sort of begun looking out for schools for Ms.G. She would be starting Kindergarten next year and the application processes begin by the end of this year. I was one of those kids who loved going to school. Both my parents were working in 9-5 jobs and it used to get really boring to sit at home by myself the whole day. So I definitely looked forward to going to school every day and would often wait eagerly for the summer holidays to end soon! Continue reading

Local Attraction Review: Al Noor Island

Al Noor Island Sharjah

If there is one place in the UAE, where you can almost forget that you are in a desert, even if you sit outside and close your eyes, that has got to be Al Noor Island in Sharjah. This lovely little island is so cool and calm, filled with a wide variety of trees and plants which lend a naturally lush and verdant feel to it. This green vegetation attracts a lot of birds and it is delightful to hear them all twittering and chattering away to their heart’s content. Combine this with water gently lapping on the shore and you have a perfect slice of paradise under your feet! Continue reading

Local Attraction Review: Mattel Play! Town

Kid-Friendly Play Zone in Dubai

I had reviewed Green Planet in City Walk sometime back on this blog. When my daughter and I were visiting Green Planet, I noticed another placed called Mattel Play! Town in City Walk, which also seemed like an interesting place for kids. I made a mental note to visit it some other day. I came back home and did some googling about this new place and read a lot of good stuff about it as a result of which I decided to include it in my mommy bucket list.

A few weeks later, Cobone, the super awesome deals website in the UAE was running a competition and I happened to win! Yay! Thanks Cobone! Continue reading

Local Attraction Review: Green Planet

I’ve been hearing some good stuff about Green Planet located in CityWalk Dubai for the past few months. It had been on my wish list for a few weeks and one cloudy March morning I decided to check them out along with Ms.G.

CityWalk itself is a pretty gorgeous neighbourhood without a doubt. The broad and spacious sidewalks, the clean and wide roads, the chic restaurants lining the streets and the fashionable crowd milling about – it’s quite a lovely sight indeed.

On Parenting Annoyances

As a parent there are a number of things which end up annoying you. It could be your toddler’s insistent questions that almost makes you wish you could tape their mouths shut. Or it could be the endless comments about your child’s weight/eating habits/routine/what not! But one of the most annoying things for me is definitely when my parenting is obstructed by other people who believe that they and their opinions or viewpoints about parenting has a higher precedence over mine about how my child is to be parented.

I don’t care if you are my neighbour, a stranger at the doctor’s waiting room or even the grandparent –  when it comes to parenting my child, I’m afraid that my word is final. Continue reading

What We Ate Today: An Indian Pasta Fusion

I’m back with yet another lunch post today. I had my first taste of pasta only in my twenties. Ms. G however tried pasta for the first time when she was about a year old. One thing common between both of us though is that we both fell instantly in love with it!

I am South Indian and our staple food is rice. Rice is comfort food for me – whether it is in the form of biryani, or the more humble sambar rice and curd rice. Rice finds a place for itself in at least one meal daily in our home. Strangely though Ms.G has not yet developed any strong preferences for rice. Continue reading

What We Ate Today: Channa Pulao

One of the main topics that I’ve heard discussed among moms is food. Almost every mom I know complains that their child is a picky eater! As a mother we feel happy and satisfied if our child eats properly. Often though, our idea of a proper meal doesn’t seem to sync with our children’s idea of a good meal – be it in terms of quantity or quality!

Ms. G has been an exclusively breast fed baby. My weaning strategy has really been a mix of traditional and baby-led weaning – although purists might argue that there is no such thing! Continue reading
